Watershed is proud to be part of the team that designed the winning house in the Sustainable House Competition hosted by the Toronto & Region Conservation Authority on June 21st 2006. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Watershed staff were responsible for the mathematical energy modeling of different building features in this low-energy building, and the recommendation of design components related to heat-transfer and efficiency.
The winning design used passive solar heating with accessible thermal mass contained within the envelope. To increase building longevity, a provision was made within the house for future division into smaller units to accommodating changing family structures over time. This early work on low-energy buildings helped to support later designs for the CHMC Healthy House and others.
